Parsons on if the Rockets have a shot at landing Dwight Howard: “I think so”

Perfect hair and all, Chandler Parsons was on Jim Rome’s show on Thursday, talking about the Rockets, Team USA mini-camp and, yes… the free agent pursuit of one Dwight Howard.

Houston’s starting forward, who is becoming a bit of a star in his own right, was asked if he felt the Rockets had a shot at landing the Lakers’ superstar free agent center this summer.

“I think so,” said Parsons. “I’m good friends with Dwight and we talk. When he’s healthy and when he’s playing, he’s the best center in the NBA.”

Parsons and Howard developed a relationship back in Orlando, Chandler’s hometown and the city where Dwight played for the Magic for eight seasons. Chandler added that he talks to Dwight “a lot” and that started even before this recruiting process began.

“I remind him how good we could be together and how it would be fun to play with him and what he could do with our nucleus,” said Parsons.

Chandler also had high praise for Rockets coach Kevin McHale, calling him his favorite coach that he’s ever played for and expecting him to be a draw in luring Howard to Houston.

“It’s a decision (Dwight) has to make and he’s got a lot to think about,” said Parsons. “But I don’t see why he wouldn’t pick Houston with the excitement we got down there. We got a young team. We got a great Hall of Fame coach in Coach McHale. Especially being a center, what better coach to play for than him.”

But Parsons, who admitted that the playoff loss to the Thunder is still not out of his system, is ready to take it up a notch.

“We have a great nucleus with me, Jeremy, James and Omer. To add a piece like Dwight could really make us take the next step and contend for a championship next year.”
