On Monday, September 10th, the Rockets signed shooting guard Oscar Torres to a contract. Torres is a big boy for a 2-guard at 6-6 and 210 pounds and has been starring for the Venezuelan National Team the last year and has played with Marinos de Oriente of the Venezuelan LPB League the past 4 seasons, averaging 16 points and 2.5 steals per game this past season. He also played this summer for the Rockets in the LA Pro Summer League, averaging 7.3 points on 62.5 percent shooting in four games, but most notably scored 26 points on 9-12 shooting in just 19 minutes of action in the final game against Memphis. Said Rockets GM Carroll Dawson, "Since we lost Shandon Anderson, I've been working really hard to get Torres back here. We don't have a two backing up Cuttino." Torres has improved a great deal over the past 2 seasons. "We brought him in two years ago and worked him out," said CD to Sporting News. "We told him he needed to learn how to play. Now, he knows how to play. When I first saw him, he had about 10 blocks against Clyde Drexler's team, but he wasn't ready. But I sent B.J. (advance scout Brent Johnson) to Venezuela to see him this season, and he really looked good."
