Mardy Collins
6-6, 205 lb senior PG/SG out of Temple
A jack of all trades, Mardy Collins was a solid four-year starter for Temple and projects as a possible point guard in the pros. As a junior, the 6-foot-6 Collins averaged 17.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.8 steals for the Owls, remaining fairly consistent as a senior at 16.8 points, 4.7 boards, 2.8 steals and 4 assists. Named to the All-Atlantic-10 First Team in both 2005 and 2006, Collins finished his collegiate career fourth on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,919 points and second in steals at 290.

Versatile. Collins is an unselfish and intelligent player with sound fundamentals. Has good court vision -- makes the solid pass and takes good care of the ball, as evidenced by his 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Has a decent stroke with his mid-range jumper, though his range does not extend too far. Collins has long arms and good anticipation skills, making him one of college's best thieves. With his 6-foot-6 frame, scouts are intrigued by his potential at the point position. |
Not an exceptional athlete... you won't see Mardy Collins on too many highlight reels. His shooting accuracy is his biggest known. He's not a good three-point shooter, as he shot just 29.1% for his four-year career and never really improved, despite averaging 5 long range attempts a night. Free throw shooting is poor as well, having hit less than 60% at the stripe as a senior. |
Barring a trade, don't look for Mardy Collins to be called by the Rockets. We feel that the #8 selection is likely too early for Collins, though never underestimate Jeff Van Gundy's eye for defense. Collins wouldn't wow anyone wearing the Rocket threads, but he could be a solid player in the rotation. |
